仙境之桥

（A composition written by Leslie wins much praise from the teacher. The teacher asks Leslie to read it to the class.）

Leslie： Im moving gently forward， over the wild and beautiful， unexplored world below me. Im floating in silence， and breaking it up with the sound of my breath. Above me， theres nothing but 1）shimmery light， the place where Ive come from， and will go back to when I am done here. Im diving. Im a scuba diver. Im going deeper past the wrinkled rocks and dark seaweed toward a deep blueness where a school of silver fish wait. As I swim through the water， bubbles burst from me， wobbling like little jellyfish as they rise. I check my air. I dont have as much time as I need to see everything， but that is what makes it so special.

莱斯利：我缓慢地往前游动，游过下面这个狂野、美丽而又隐秘的世界。我在寂静中潜游，我的呼吸声打破了这片寂静。在我上方，只有微亮的光，那正是我来的地方，也正是我结束了这段旅程之后要回去的地方。我正在潜水。我是个潜水员。我潜向海的深处，游过那些褶皱的石头和深色的水草，潜向那片深蓝，潜向那群等着我的银色鱼儿。我就这样游着，小水泡从我嘴里一串串地冒出，它们晃悠悠地上升，像小水母一样。我检查了一下氧气筒，没有足够的时间看清所有的东西了。而正因如此，这段旅程才显得尤为特别。

（莱斯利和杰西发现了一条荡绳，可以通向他们家后面的一片树林。）

莱斯利：我们得找个地方，只属于咱们俩的地方。杰西：嗯？

杰西：哦，可是我们一回到学校，他们就又在那儿了。

杰西：我不知道，会怎么样？

莱斯利：好吧，如果进入这个王国的惟一通道就是用这根施了魔法的荡绳，你觉得怎么样？

杰西：施了魔法的荡绳？

莱斯利：是啊，来吧！

（风铃声）

杰西：什么声音？

莱斯利：什么？

杰西：那……那个声音，我听过这声音，有人在附近。莱斯利：那是囚犯的镣铐声。

杰西：什么囚犯？

莱斯利：黑暗魔王的囚犯。

（They find an old tree house. Dragonflies flutter around them.）

Leslie： Warriors.

Jess： Um…try dragonflies.

Leslie： No. Theyre warriors. From the treetop provinces.

Jess： I…I dont know this game.

Leslie： What game？ This is for real. This is the ruins of a once great 4）fortress， whose people have been 5）imprisoned. Jess， you and I have been sent to free them. Prisoners of the Dark Master， hear me！ We have come to free you. Do you hear us？ Show me that you hear us！

（Wind blowing and trees rattling）

（On top of a big tree）

Leslie： Come on. You can see the whole kingdom from up here. Isnt this cool？ We can do anything here. Look at it. Its all ours. From the mountains to the oceans.

Jess： What am I looking for exactly？

Leslie： Youll see. Just close your eyes...but keep your mind wide open.

Jess： Wow. What do we call this place？

Leslie： Terabithia.

莱斯利：勇士。

杰西：呃，不如说是蜻蜓。

杰西：你到底要让我看什么呢？

莱斯利：你会明白的。只要闭上眼睛……同时完全敞开你的心。

杰西：哇！我们给这地方取个什么名字好呢？莱斯利：特雷比西亚。

杰西：你看见过鲨鱼吗？ 你潜水的时候有没有看到过鲨鱼？

莱斯利：我根本从来就没有潜过水。

杰西：你在你的作文里面说谎？

莱斯利：没有，我只是杜撰了我的作文。杜撰跟说谎可不一样。就好像你的那些画，难道也是你亲眼所见？

杰西：不，可是……

杰西：你爸爸在哪儿工作？

莱斯利：在家，跟我妈妈一样。他们都是作家。

杰西：作家？ 他们写什么？

莱斯利：小说。

杰西：怪不得你会这样。

莱斯利：什么意思？

杰西：你喜欢编故事啊，因为你父母就是以写故事谋生的。

莱斯利：那你对五金器具了解很多吗？

杰西：没有啊，怎么了？

莱斯利：你爸爸在五金店工作。

杰西：哦，好吧。

莱斯利：我只是想说，你就是你自己，跟你父母无关。

（莱斯利告诉杰西她如何安慰八年级的恶霸贾尼斯·艾弗利。）

杰西：呃，那你跟她说了些什么？

莱斯利：我告诉她，我家没有电视，大家都取笑我。我能理解别人把自己当异类看是什么感觉。

杰西：然后她说什么？

莱斯利：她问我该怎么办。

杰西：贾尼斯·艾弗利问你她该怎么办？莱斯利：是啊。

杰西：然后呢？

莱斯利：然后我就告诉她，假装自己根本不知道别人怎么谈论自己，过个几星期，也就没有人会记得这件事了。

杰西：天哪……

莱斯利：然后我还给了她一片口香糖。

（Jess goes to the museum with his music teacher. When he comes home， a shocking tragedy awaits him…）

Jess： Whats going on？

Father： Your friend Leslies dead. She drowned in a creek this morning. Apparently she tried to swing across on a rope and it broke. They think she hit her head.

Jess： No...No， it…its not that kind of rope. It…it couldnt break. It...wouldnt have.

Father： But it did. Im sorry， son.

Jess： No， youre lying. Shes not even dead. Youre lying！

Mother： Jess！

Jess： I didnt invite her to go to the museum with me. I didnt wanna invite her. I wasnt there to go with her. Its my fault.

Father： No， no， no， no. Its not your fault. None of that makes it so. Its a terrible thing. It doesnt make any sense， but…its not your fault， Jess. She brought you something special when she came here， didnt she？ Thats what you hold on to. Thats how you keep her alive.

（杰西跟音乐老师去参观博物馆。回到家，等着他的是一个惊人的噩耗……）

杰西：出什么事了？

父亲：你的朋友莱斯利死了。她今早溺死在一条小溪里。显然她是想要荡那条绳子到对岸去，然后绳子断了。似乎她撞到头了。

杰西：不……不会的，那……那条不是那种不结实的绳子，不可能断的，不……不可能。

父亲：但这是真的。很抱歉，孩子。

杰西：你在撒谎！ 她根本没死。你撒谎！母亲：杰西！

杰西：我没有邀请她一起去博物馆，我不想让她一起去。她出事的时候，我甚至不在她身边。都是我的错。

父亲：不，不，不，这不是你的错，这些都不是这次悲剧的原因。这件事非常不幸，让人难以接受。可是……这不是你的错，杰西。她来到这里，给你的生命带来了很特别的东西，对吗？这些东西将永存在你的心里，而她也因此而活在你心里。

（Jess eventually gets over Leslies death. In remembrance of her， he builds a new bridge to Terabithia. He brings his little sister May Belle to the kingdom and crowns her as the new princess.）

Jess： Look！ They mustve heard the rumor that the beautiful girl arriving today is the new future ruler of Terabithia.

May Belle： Who heard？

Jess： The Terabithians. Theyve been waiting.

May Belle： Where？ I dont see them.

Jess： Its an ancient forest， May Belle， full of magical creatures and friendly giants， anything you can imagine. But you gotta look really hard. But keep your mind wide open. So， what do you think？

May Belle： Can there be purple flowers？

Jess： Anything you want.
