一言不合，就“扔男友/女友”？

Boyfriend/girlfriend drop refers to the act of subtly①subtly 美 ［'sʌtli］ adv. 精细地；巧妙地；敏锐地adding the fact that you have a boyfriend/ girlfriend into the conversation in order to deter②deter 英 ［dɪ'tɜː］ 美 ［dɪ'tɝ］ vt. 制止，阻止；使打消念头hasty 英 ［'heɪstɪ］ 美 ［'hesti］ adj. 轻率的；匆忙的；草率的；性怠的anyone who is potentially interested in you.

“扔男友/女友”指在聊天的时候不经意提起自己有男朋友或女朋友的事情，目的是为了击退某个对你感兴趣的人。

For example:

She thought I was interested in her and boyfriend dropped me in our last meeting.

她以为我对她有兴趣，于是在上次见面的时候她就告诉我她有男朋友了。

实际上，猴年马月并不是真的遥遥无期，而是每逢12年就有一次，今年的猴年马月开始于2016年6月5日，结束于2016年7月3日。

A query asked if the British slang term for 'a very long time' was donkey's years or donkey's ears. My first thoughts were， "donkey's years of course - what would ears have to do with it？". It turns out that I was being rather hasty②deter 英 ［dɪ'tɜː］ 美 ［dɪ'tɝ］ vt. 制止，阻止；使打消念头hasty 英 ［'heɪstɪ］ 美 ［'hesti］ adj. 轻率的；匆忙的；草率的；性怠的. Donkey's years is now the more commonly used slang term when meaning 'a long time'， but donkey's ears，although used little in recent years， has been a jokey alternative③alternative 英 ［ɔːl'tɜːnətɪv； ɒl-］ 美 ［ɔl'tɝnətɪv］ adj. 供选择的；选择性的；交替的 n. 二中择一；供替代的选择for some time - from the early 20th century.

一份问卷调查了英国描述“很长时间”的俚语是donkey's years还是donkey's ears。我的第一反应就是：“当然是donkey's years”，这和耳朵有什么关系？但事实证明我还是太草率了。donkey's years在现在，普遍被用作表示“很长时间”，donkey's ears虽然如今用得很少，但从20世纪初期开始，被用作一种滑稽的替代。

在近来的美式英语中，“a thing”有了新含义，表示一个新流行的话题、趋势或行为（a newly popular topic， trend， or activity）。

例1：Eating toast with avocado on top is now “a thing” in many U.S. cities.

现在美国很多城市流行吃吐司上面放一颗牛油果。

例2：Saying that you will move to Canada if _________ wins the presidency in November is also a thing among celebrities.

最近名人们流行把“如果_________ 11月赢得总统大选我就搬去加拿大”挂在嘴边。

例3：Are adult coloring books really a thing now？

成人的涂色书现在真的很火吗？

Yes， they are: people are actually spending time coloring paper books like children. Sadly， it is a thing.

没错，是的：人们真的像小孩一样把时间花在涂纸质书上。很悲哀，它真的很火。

衣橱怒：不知道该穿啥很气恼

Wardrobe Rage

"Wardrobe rage" describes the irrational tantrums①tantrum 英 ［'tæntrəm］ 美 ［'tæntrəm］ n. 发脾气；发怒people feel when they are staring at the wardrobe but don't know what to wear or cannot find anything they want to wear.

“衣橱怒”指人们盯着自己的衣橱却不知道该穿什么，或者找不到任何想穿的衣服时焦躁的发怒状态。

这个表达来源于大家都熟悉的road rage（路怒），后来衍生的相关表达还有web rage（网怒），desk rage（桌怒）以及air rage（空怒）等。
