Second Volume of Xis Book on Governance Published

The second volume of Chinese President Xi Jinpings book on governance has been published in both Chinese and English.

The second volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China collects 99 of Xis speeches, conversations, instructions, and letters, as well as 29 photos of the Chinese leader, between August 18, 2014 and September 29, 2017. The articles are divided into 17 topics, and the book also adds some necessary annotations to improve readers understanding.

Over the past three years since the publishing of the first volume in September, 2014, Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, has continued to put forward a series of new concepts, thoughts, and strategies, enriching the CPCs theories.

The second volume charts the practices of the CPC Central Committee, with Xi at the core, in uniting and leading the Chinese people to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics in a new era.

It reflects the development and gist of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and is expected to help the international community better understand the path, concept, and model of Chinas development.

An amendment to the CPC Constitution, approved at the Partys 19th National Congress in October, has made Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era a new component of the Partys guide for action.

As of August, the first volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China had sold 6.42 million copies in 21 languages in more than 160 countries and regions.

Before Xis official visit to Laos in November, the Lao language version of the first volume of the book was presented on November 9 in the Laotian capital, Vientiane.

Speaking at the presentation, Guo Weimin, deputy director of the State Council Information Office, said the publication of the books Lao version is of great significance on the occasion of the successful conclusion of the 19th CPC National Congress and the visit to Laos by Xi.

For his part, Kikeo Khaikhamphithoune, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of Lao Peoples Revolutionary Party and head of the Partys Commission for Propaganda and Training, said the publication of the book is a valuable gift for the Lao party and people.

Premiers Philippines Visit to Promote Cooperation with ASEAN

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang took part in a series of high-level meetings in the Philippines across five days starting November 12, including the 20th ChinaAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (10+1) leaders meeting, the 20th ASEAN-China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (10+3) leaders meeting, and the 12th East Asia Summit.

At the meetings, Li said China proposed the formulation of a vision for strategic partnership between China and ASEAN countries to the year 2030 to upgrade cooperation. China-ASEAN cooperation will have more global impact and set a new example for South-South cooperation. Furthermore, he called for joint efforts to advance construction of an East Asia economic community for regional integration and common development. He further pointed out that China will firmly safeguard freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea.

The premier also paid an official visit to the Philippines after attending the meetings. At a news conference joined by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, Li stated that China is willing to hold detailed discussions and formulate ways to cooperate with the Philippines for the next five to 10 years. Duterte said the Philippines will be committed to pressing ahead with cooperation with China in various fields. The two leaders witnessed the signing of a series of cooperation documents on infrastructure, technology, and finance.

First Wuhan-Europe Cargo Train Exports Chinese Food Products to Germany

A cargo train loaded with Chinese liquor left the central Chinese city of Wuhan bound for Duisburg, Germany, on October 26.

It is the first WuhanEurope cargo train carrying Chinese food products to Europe. Launched in 2012, the Wuhan-Europe freight route links Wuhan with more than 20 European cities. As of October 20, 2017, some 277 trains carrying a total of 25,000 containers have traveled the route this year.

A number of Chinese cities – including Chongqing and Chengdu in southwest China, Zhengzhou and Changsha in central China, and Shenyang in northeastern China – have rail freight services to Europe.
