Since the 1990s when the group was first founded, the Xincheng Group has been growing into a large-scaled corporate group with business interests in many sectors and with a total sales revenue of RMB 50 billion.

Build a project and leave the benefits to the local community

After graduating school, Zhou Chunhua remained in rural areas for 7 years. She was the representative graduate of Shanghai Haifeng Farm. She has also been a first-grade prosecutor in Shanghai Peoples Procuratorate. She also once switched jobs to the real estate sector, as she is always determined to get things done. Thanks to this hard work, she quickly rose to fame in the new sector.

Since entering the Shang- hai real-estate market in 1996, the Xincheng Group has developed around 10 real-estate projects in Jingan, Changning, Yangpu and Minhang districts, including the Mingyuan Hotel, the residential area of Zhaohua Road, Tianxiang Mansion, Shanghai Garden, the American Village in the west suburbs, Hongqiao Yindu and Hongqiao Mansion House. As she was born in Taizhou, Jiangsu, since 2010, Zhou Chunhua led her company to invest in realestate projects in Taizhou, Taixing and Nantong, in order to accumulate rich experiences in the field of realestate. Taizhou Royal Garden mainly consists of high-rise residential buildings, with a total construction space of 400 thousand sq. m. This project adopts French neo-classicalism as its architectural style and has become a landmark and a mark of classic buildings in the key urban area of Taizhou.“Taixing Royal Garden Community”is a large-scale community project developed by the company. This project features 2,600 mu of land develop-ment and construction, including 900 mu of real estate and commercial land development, 600 mu of lake area construction and 100 mu of resettlement housing construction.

Zhou Chunhua said that she wants each project to be carried out in the spirit of historical responsibility for the city development, regardless of whether the project is in Shanghai or Jiangsu. She follows the motto:“Build a project and leave the benefits for the local community”. It is said that with regards to Tianxiang Mansion, a project developed by the company in Jiangning Road, Jingan District, Shanghai, the construction quality and material selection of the whole building are excellent, and the facade was covered with highgrade wall tiles. In 1999, the project was awarded the “Jingan Excellent Residence Demonstration Award”. In 2000, the group launched the Shanghai Grand Garden project in Shanghai. This project won market recognition quickly and became one of the most influential buildings in Shanghai at that time. It entered the list of Shanghais top 50 residential buildings in terms of areas sold, and the top 10 buildings in terms of public attention in 2003.

Chase the dream: making the switch to the big health sector

As chairperson of a private company, Zhou Chunhua said she always felt a sense of risk. After the year 2000, the rising land price made her realize the risks of running a single type of business. She decided to find a new field of development. In 2001, she led the group into the pharmaceutical sector and invested in research and development of western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine and formed three key business areas, including production, sales and R&D. The company also established a national sales network covering many self-owned products.

The group currently owns a pharmaceutical company named Shanghai Shuangji Pharmaceutical. Located in Kangqiao, Pudong New District, this company covers a floor space of more than 24,000 sq. m. and has four production lines for making tablets, capsules, granules and syrups, with an annual production capacity of 200 million tablets, 200 million capsules and 50 million bags of granules. The company also has complete traditional Chinese medicine extraction facilities, and is capable of extracting and producing almost all traditional Chinese medicine preparations. The designed capacity was 500 tons of traditional Chinese medicine raw materials per year.

At present, the company has production approvals for 24 varieties of drugs, and has successfully developed anti-anxiety compound traditional Chinese medicine, antidepressant compound traditional Chinese medicine and cardiovascular new compound medicine telmisartan hydrochlorothiazide capsules with independent intellectual property rights. In 2017, telmisartan hydrochlorothiazide capsules, the companys main product, successfully entered the 2017 National Medical Insurance Catalog, and was gradually promoted across the whole country. The Jinxiang Shugan tablet, another of the companys drugs, has been used for treating depression and has independent intellectual property rights, and has also entered the Shanghai Medical Insurance Catalog. In 2013, the group worked with the China Resources Pharmaceutical business group, a national leading enterprise in the pharmaceutical industry, to implement strategic asset restructuring for Shanghai Shenwei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., which has officially been renamed China Resources Pharmaceutical (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. In the pharmaceutical industry, the group currently has commercial customers located in 25 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China and a sales network covering more than 360 medical institutions in Shanghai. It has become a pharmaceutical circula-tion enterprise integrating the productions of drugs, medical devices, testing reagents and disposable medical consumables.

Due to the long duration needed for drug approval, there have been many delays in the clinical application of some R&D drugs. Since 2019, Zhou Chunhua initiated the idea of shifting the corporate business to the big health industry. To this end, she led her company to develop a number of health foods. On June 1, 2021, the Global Health Forum of the Boao Forum for Asia was held in Qingdao. The “Beyono” brand blackberry puree drink developed by the group was the only officially designated fruit juice drink at this forum. After that, a cranberry puree drink was developed and sold in the market. To this end, the group has specially established Shanghai Guofang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., in the hopes of building a large health industry platform integrating R&D, and the production and sales of drugs and health foods. Located in Changning District, Shanghai, the R&D headquarter of Shanghai Guofang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. mainly covers drugs, anti-aging health foods, nursing products, stem cell development, diagnosis and treatment technology, and other fields.

In order to further improve the groups health industry chain, Xincheng Group established “Kunlun Health Insurance Co., Ltd.” in 2005. The main business scope includes: RMB and foreign currency health insurance and accident insurance business; health insurance business relating to the national medical security policy and entrusted by the government; consulting services, agency services, reinsurance business, fund utilization and other businesses related to health insurance. Thanks to its professional business operation, the companys income has exceeded RMB 22 billion so far.

Zhou Chunhua has always insisted that entrepreneurs in the new era should not only bear economic responsibilities, but should also lead enterprises to fulfill their social responsibilities. They should have the entrepreneurial spirit of “fulfilling responsibilities, daring to undertake duties and being ready to serve society”. Over the years, she has participates in various social public welfare donation activities through many different ways and channels. She has donated nearly RMB 120 million of charitable funds and materials to practice her values.

During the fight against SARS in 2003, the Xincheng Group made donations to the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau for special assistance to fight against SARS in Shanghai and actively engaged in charitable activities organized by social organizations. The accumulated donations and goods of the company totaled RMB 12 million. As the virus spread across the world, airports became another battleground in which to fight the pandemic. The company was concerned about the safety of the front-line staff in airports, and donated pandemic prevention and health care materials to the airport pandemic prevention brigade of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau and Shanghai Airport(Group) Co., Ltd.

Since its establishment, the group has also donated money to women and children in poor areas in the west through the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation and to the cause of the disabled through the Shanghai Disabled Persons Federation, helping the needy and giving back to the society. As Zhou Chunhua said, at the end of last year when attending the 7th “Lighting Lights for Love” charity sale organized by the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, she hopes to become a luminous body herself to illuminate the lives of more people, warm more people and contribute to public welfare undertakings.
