主持人语：公共艺术的概念是面向社会的、开放的具有以广大民众广泛参与为特征的艺术形式，就其表现内容的多样性与丰富性而言，又体现出多元、复合、模糊的动态性特征。在艺术与非艺术之间：通俗与高雅并存，永恒与时尚同在；文化与商业互动；物质与精神相依。因此，缺乏对公共艺术理论的讨论、无益于产生完善的作品实践，我国的现状正如世界著名公共艺术家关根伸夫所言：“以我之见，中国的（公共艺术）尚处在‘量重于‘质的时代”。其原则是多方面的，无论是在文化观念上、运作机制、社会传播等方面，还是在行政方式乃至有关法律、法规的制订上都滞后于当代中国公共艺术发展到成长的迫切要求。 ——董雅

Chinese art is born with the public art. From the ancient clay arts to modern chinese devices and decorations that are used in square and architecture, it only wants to satisfy or transcend the masses appreciation of aesthetic psychology and wishes and show the constructive needing of humanity.

The chinese art which derived from the living needs of people was closely associated with humanity public environment and psychological needs at germinating stage. Badly primitive living conditions had promoted the public concepts and conscious to all districts people to depend on each other or live together. On the other hand, it had also promoted the common things that were based on above to create conformation. When people fabricate many kinds of shapes concentrated the same belief of certain groups with the clay with their own hands and when original inhabitants in Australia draw beautiful pictures on cliff with colored kaolin and when magnificent sculpture in roof. Buddhist temple decorated with ceramics fresco, unrivaled terracotta soldiers in Xian and graceful ceramics in Portugal, Italy and Middle East emerged in front of us, ceramics seems to the central carrier of each kind of cultural essential in architecture design and public art. The individual belonging and cohesion of colony become conforming and shaping to a kind of culture and come to finish the regional, racial, characteristic and traditional practicing step by step. Finally, they become a public humanity conception which can not be replaced by anything.

陶瓷艺术与生俱有公共艺术特征，从远古的筑泥为器到今天广场、建筑上陶瓷材质的装置与装饰，以满足并超越公众审美心理和愿望的姿态，坦呈着人类的营造需要。

起源于人类生活需求的陶瓷艺术，在萌芽阶段便与人类的公共环境和公共心理需求有着密切的联系。恶劣的原始生存条件，促进了各个区域人类互相依赖、共同生活的群体意识和状态，也促进了以此为基础的共同的物质创造形态和审美标准。当人们将采挖到的泥土，亲手捏塑为凝聚着某一群体共同信仰的各种形态时，当澳大利亚的土著人将有色陶土和釉料涂在悬崖峭壁上，勾勒出精美的图画时，当华丽的屋顶陶塑和陶瓷壁画装……
