Ajobless1man wanted toapply2for the position of“office boy”at Microsoft.The staff managerinterviewed3him and then gave him a test:clean the floor.The man passed it:He cleaned the floor very well.

一个失业的年轻人想应征微软公司勤杂工的职位。人事经理面试了他，并给他出了一个打扫地板的测试。这个年轻人把地板打扫得很干净，顺利地通过了测试。

“You arehired4,”the manager told the man.“Give me your e mail address,and I’ll send you the form to fill in.I shall also send you the date you should report for the work.”

“你被录用了，”经理告诉这个年轻人，“现在需要你的邮箱地址，我会把需要填写的表格发送到你邮箱，同时会在邮件内写明工作所需表格的发送时间。”

The man replied,“I don’t have a computer,or an email!”

可是这个年轻人却说：“我既没有电脑，也没有电子邮箱。”

“I am sorry,”said the manager.“If you don’t have an email,that means you do notexist5.And we cannot accept persons who do not exist.”

“很抱歉，如果说一个人没有电子邮箱，就意味着这个人‘不存在’。我们是没办法让一个不存在的人在这里工作的。”人事经理回答道。

The man was very disappointed.He didn’t know what to do.He only had 10 dollars with him.Once that was spent,he wouldn’t have any money to buy even food.He went to the supermarket and bought a box of tomatoes with his 10 dollars.He went from door to door and sold the tomatoes in small bags.He doubled his money.

这个年轻人非常失望，不知道接下来可以做什么。他身上也仅剩10美元，一旦花掉这10美元，他连吃的都没钱买了。他用仅剩的10美元去超市买了一盒番茄，把从超市买来的番茄分成了一小袋一小袋，挨家挨户售卖，最后他手头的钱翻了一倍。

He repeated this three times,and returned home with 60 dollars.He realized that he could continue to live this way.He started to go earlier every day,and returned later.He doubled or made even three times his money every day.Soon,he bought a cart,then a truck.In a very short time,he had manydelivery6trucks.

这样重复了三次后，他回家时身上有了60美元。他意识到自己完全可以以这样的方式去赚钱生活。他开始每天早出晚归，每天都可以将带出去的钱翻一倍，甚至是两倍。很快，他就买了一辆手推车，紧接着又买了一辆卡车，很短的时间内，他赚了钱，买了很多卡车用于送货。

Five years later,the man became one of the most biggest food sellers in the country.He started to plan his family’s future.He called aninsurance7broker8,a man who sells insurance.At the end of the conversation,the broker asked him for his e mail address.The man replied,“I don’t have an e mail.”

五年后，这个年轻人成为了城中最大的食品零售商之一。此时他开始计划家庭的未来，于是他给一位保险经纪打了电话。交谈快结束时，保险经纪询问他的邮箱地址，这个年轻人依旧回答：“我没有电子邮箱。”

Hearing that,the broker felt very surprised.“You don’t have an email,and yet have succeeded in becoming so rich.Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?”he said aloud.The man thought for a while,and replied,“An office boy at Microsoft!”

听到这样的答案，保险经纪异常惊讶，大声说道：“你没有邮箱地址都可以如此富有。倘若你有邮箱的话，你能想象得出你会变成什么样吗？”这个年轻人思考了一会儿回答道：“我会是微软的一个勤杂工。”
