阳光号小电车和月光号小电车在环城的复线铁轨上生活，他们的工作是把这里的居民分别送到各自想去的车站，然后头也不回开往下一个车站。两列电车的行走方向是这样的：他们走自己的轨道，总是迎面开来。

Trolley the Sunlight and Trolley the Moonlight live on dual track railways， and they transport people to different stations. There is nowhere to turn around so they just go forward to the next station， and the next and the next. The two trolleys have their own track， but they often meet each other face to face！

是阳光号先注意到了月光号，当时，阳光号正好停在银河站。阳光号看见月光号像一道蓝色的绸带向远处飘去，那样子漂亮极了。

Trolley the Sunlight was the first to notice the existence of the other one. At that moment， Sunlight was drawing near at the Milky Way stop. He saw a blue ribbon blowing away——it was a wonderful sight——it was the Moonlight.

“天底下还有这样漂亮的电车呢！”阳光号惊呆了，旅客都上来了，他却迟迟没有开车。后来，塌鼻子站长来催了，“伙计，该开车了。”

Trolley the Sunlight marveled at the scene， “I never seen a trolley more beautiful！” all passengers got aboard but Sunlight did not start on his way. The station master， a man with a flat nose， yelled to him， “Hey boy！ Its time to go！”

阳光号不情愿地开走了。但是他明白，不久他就能再遇见月光号了，像平时一样，擦肩而过，就像不认识一样。果然，不久，阳光号就远远地看见那条蓝绸带朝他飘过来。不知为什么，这回，阳光号第一次听见了自己的心跳，咔嗒嗒，咔嗒嗒——就这样听着自己的心跳，月光号从身边一闪而过。阳光号想，应该打个招呼，于是轻轻地唤了一声，“呜——”

Trolley the Sunlight started down his track reluctantly. He knew he would meet Moonlight soon， but they would pass like strangers as usual. He was correct——the blue ribbon was now floating toward him from the far end. Sunlight heard his own heart beating——katata katata——and saw Moonlight passing by. Sunlight thought a hello would be fine at this moment so he made a gentle sound Ding Ding.

月光號走远了，没听见。月光号没有回应，阳光号惆怅地行进在铁轨上。这下，阳光号晚点了，他停在银河站时足足迟到了5分钟。塌鼻子站长不高兴地看着他，“你怎么搞的？”

塌鼻子站长想，这家伙好像有心事，下回得问问他。

But Moonlight had gone on her way. She didnt hear his greeting. Sunlight went on too， but in a melancholy mood. He was five minutes late when he arrived at Milky Way station. The flat-nosed station master was upset with him， asking， “What is wrong with you？”

There must be something worrying Sunlight， thought the station master， and he decided to find out.

第二天下午，月光号才真正注意阳光号。这次是月光号停在银河站，阳光号从她身边开过时，“呜”地鸣了一下汽笛。月光号惊奇地发现，原来这个经常与自己擦肩而过的伙伴有着火一样的颜色。喔，是个不错的同行！月光号便鸣响汽笛回应了一下。阳光号听见月光号的回应，心里剧烈地跳着，咔嗒嗒，咔嗒嗒——这一次，当他开到银河站时竟然提前了，利用这段时间塌鼻子站长跟阳光号谈心。

The following afternoon， when Moonlight was taking her break at Milky Way， she noticed Sunlight. She noticed him because Sunlight rang his bell when passing her. In surprise， Moonlight found this fellow looked like a flame. Must be a nice colleague！ She rang her bell in response. Sunlight heard her reply and his heart was beating fast——Katata， katata！ This time， he was five minutes earlier when he arrived at the station. The station master took the time to talk with Sunlight.

“伙计，你不太对头。”

“我，我喜欢上一条蓝色的绸带，她回应了我。她回应了我，这非常重要。”阳光号一抬头看见了蓝蓝的天空，于是阳光号就觉得满世界都挂满了蓝绸带。

“Hey man. You are not yourself. Youve been acting weird.”

“I...I have a crush on a blue ribbon. She responded to my bell and it meant so much to me！”Sunlight looked up and saw the blue sky but all he saw were blue ribbons.

“是这样啊！”塌鼻子站长看着阳光号幸福的样子，很可爱。

阳光号问塌鼻子站长：“我算不算在恋爱呢？”

“Is that so？” The flat-nosed station master felt this was a lovely fellow，look at the happy look on his face！

“Am I in love？”

塌鼻子站長马上提醒阳光号：“你又不知道人家的心意，人家只是跟你打个招呼罢了。”阳光号觉得心里冷了一下，问：“怎么才能知道对方的心意呢？”

塌鼻子站长回忆了一下自己的恋爱史，马上告诉他：“看看对方的眼睛就知道了。”

“Not yet. You dont know how she feels about it， right？” the station master reminded him. “It is just a hello， right？”

“Then how can I know her mind？” For a second， Sunlight was disheartened.

The flat-nosed station master recalled his own romance and said， “You can tell her mind by looking straight into her eyes.”

说到这里，塌鼻子站长发现其实他一直清楚地记得她，记得她的眼睛。

Saying this， the flat-nosed station master knew he had never really forgotten her， especially her eyes.

这一天，当月光号鸣着汽笛从身边开过去时，阳光号没有回应她，却有了一个新的念头：看看月光号的眼睛。一天过去，阳光号明白了，他和月光号行走在两列铁轨上，只凭擦肩的刹那，是无论如何也看不见对方的眼睛的。这个发现令阳光号的心情灰颓到了极点。到达银河站时，他又迟到了。

One day， when Moonlight passed by Sunlight， ringing her bell， Sunlight did not respond. He had a new idea on his mind； he wanted to see her eyes. At the end of the day， Sunlight suddenly discovered that they were on different tracks. They could meet but they would never look straight into each others eyes. This new thought almost brought him to despair and he was late to the station again.

“我明白了，我可能永远也看不到她的眼睛。”阳光号沮丧地说。

塌鼻子站长想，真不该把自己当年的情形说给面前这位朋友，他的情况跟自己不同，他的太特殊了。

He told the station master dejectedly， “I can never look straight into her eyes！”

Flat-nosed station master began to regret what he had said to Sunlight. This poor guy is such a different case.

“对啊——”塌鼻子站长挠着脑袋。

“你得帮我。”临走，阳光号对塌鼻子说。

“You are right...” he said as he scratched his head.

“Youve got to help me.” said Sunlight as he rolled into his departure.

于是，差不多一整天，塌鼻子站长都是蹲在站台上给阳光号想法子。在银河站上车下车的人都以为站长的神经出了毛病呢，很替他担心。阳光号停在他身边问办法有了没有，站长说快了快了。阳光号第四次停在银河站时，塌鼻子站长说：“办法有了，是个危险的实验，但也只能这样了。”然后把这个办法告诉阳光号。阳光号认为自己的刹车技术没问题，决定按站长说的试试。

The flat-nosed station master squatted on the platform and buried himself in his thoughts all day， hoping to come up with a good idea for Sunlight. Passengers at the station felt he was off his rocker and were worried. Each time Sunlight click-clacked into the station， he asked the station master if he had an idea yet. Each time he received the reply， “Just one minute. Just one minute.” The fourth time Sunlight arrived at Milky Way station， flat-nosed station master said， “I have an idea， a dangerous one， but it seems to be the only thing we can do.” He told Sunlight about the plan. Sunlight considered himself quite skillful with his brake， so he agreed to the plan.

第二天晚上，兩列电车即将开回停车场休息的时候，车里的乘客都下去了，塌鼻子站长喝干一瓶啤酒，然后跑到两条铁轨重叠交叉的部位，在那里做了点儿手脚——阳光号如愿以偿驶上了属于月光号的那条铁轨。阳光号给站长拉了长长的一声汽笛，站长说：“你就别张扬啦，我做的事情是严重违章啊！平时，我是个规矩人，现在不守规矩了。”

The next evening， the two trolleys were about to return to their resting place after all passengers had gotten off. The flat-nosed station master finished his bottle of beer， went to the place where the two tracks crossed， and tampered with it. Now Sunlight could cross onto Moonlights track！ Sunlight was very excited and rang his bell loud and long to express his thanks！

The station master said， “SHHH！ Lower your voice！ I have broken many rules！ I am not a good station master this night. Ugh ！ ” He hung his head and grunted with displeasure.

阳光号一开走，塌鼻子站长便蹲在站台上点燃一支烟，狠狠地吸了几口。站长想，但愿别出什么意外，别出什么意外。

Away went Sunlight on his last trip of the day. Flat-nosed station master squatted on the platform and lit a cigarette， taking a few deep drags. Oh please dont let there be an accident， oh please dont， he said to himself over and over.

谁都没注意，就在刚才，一个大男孩坐上了阳光号。他跟女同事通过电话了，她已经坐在月光号里，她还告诉他，她是月光号里唯一的乘客，真有点儿寂寞呢。大男孩说他也是如此，所有的乘客都下车了，只剩下他一个人。两个人约好分别在银河站下车，然后一起去附近的公司上夜班。明天她就要辞职去海外留学了，所以男孩要在今天与她一起上班。大男孩喜欢他的女同事，但一直没有说明，只是默默喜欢着。

Nobody noticed the teenage boy boarding Sunlight. He had just hung up with his girl friend， who was on the Moonlight trolley. She told him she was the only passenger and felt kind of lonely. The boy said he was the only passenger too and they decided to meet at the Milky Way station， then walk to work for the night shift. She planned to quit the next day to go abroad for further education. That was why the boy wanted to work with her tonight. He was fond of her but he had not told her.

几分钟后阳光号发现了大男孩的存在，阳光号马上通知大男孩，他们正行走在不属于自己的轨道上，也就是说，他们走的是月光号的轨道，正迎着月光号开过去。

A few minutes later， Sunlight noticed the young man . Sunlight felt he had to tell him at once that they were not on the regular track and that they were headed directly toward Moonlight.

“有点儿危险，是下去还是留下来，你自己拿主意。我的刹车技术你尽管放心就是。”阳光号说。

“你想干什么？为什么要这样？”大男孩从座位上站起来。

“不为别的，只是想看看月光号的眼睛，认证一件事情，最重要的事情。”阳光号的心一路咔嗒嗒跳着，向前驶去。

“There is a little danger in this special trip. You can get off if you want but I assure you， you can have confidence in my skills. I wont let anything bad happen！”

“What are you doing？ Why are you doing this？” The boy stood up from his seat.

“I am determined to see the eyes of Moonlight. I must look her in the eye to learn something， something most important in my life，” said Sunlight. His heart was beating so fast but he didnt slow down.

“弄不好要相撞的啊！你究竟想认证什么事情？”大男孩已经向车门挪去，他马上要喊停车了。

“你没听说，看对方的眼睛能知道她爱不爱你？”阳光号做好了刹车的准备，它不能带着这个男孩了，他肯定不相信自己的刹车技术。

“原来是这样——”大男孩马上又平静下来。

“To learn what？” the boy asked as he moved to the door. He was just about ready to yell STOP！

“Havent you heard that you can tell if a girl loves you or not by looking in her eyes？” Sunlight was about to brake and he had a feeling the boy wouldnt trust him.

“Oh...” the boy said， beginning to calm down as he understood.

也说不清为什么，他竟然想留下来了。他随后打电话通知了女同事，他们决定留在各自的电车里，然后电话一直接通着，互相说着安慰鼓励的话。女孩告诉他，这次旅行其实有点儿浪漫，就算车毁人亡也不赔。大男孩便说不会的不会的，这时，大男孩的心怦怦跳着，与车轮碾轧铁轨的节奏一样。

For reasons he couldnt express clearly， the boy decided to stay on the trolley. He called the girl on the other trolley， and they both decided to stay. They kept talking on the phone to encourage each other. The girl said， “This is kinda romantic， this trip. There is danger of death， but it is worth it！” The boy assured her this wouldnt happen. His heart was beating to the rhythm of the trolley wheels on the rail.

“你也应该像我一样，看看她的眼睛，我猜你还没看见过。”阳光号对大男孩说。

大男孩知道该怎么做了。

Sunlight said， “You should look into her eyes as I plan to do. I guess you need to do it as much as I do.”

The boy now knew what he had to do.

而这时，月光号正迎面开来。月光号也从自己车里的女孩那里知道了目前的情况：这次与往常不同，她和阳光号是面对面开向对方， 撞车的危险正等着她。她说，这个粗心的火焰一样的家伙！

There she was！ Moonlight was heading toward them！ She had heard her passengers phone conversation and knew the trolleys were on the same track， headed squarely toward each other. couldnt he see there was danger？ This careless flame-like fellow！

“你知道他为什么这样做吗，他蛮浪漫的呢！”

女孩把她从电话里知道的一切告诉给月光号，月光号马上感到自己的心剧烈地跳动起来，咔嗒嗒——月光号坚定地开过去。很快，他們看见对方的长长的影子了。借助天空映射的微光，可以看见红火焰和蓝绸带在渐渐接近。

“Do you know why he is doing this？It seems very romantic of him！” The girl shared all she knew about Sunlight to Moonlight. Moonlights heart began beating faster， too. Katata...she was heading ever forward with determination. Soon， they would see each others long shadows. Against the dim light of the sky， a blaze and a blue ribbon were coming closer and closer.

他们在相距不远的地方开始减速、刹车，阳光号明显感到这一次做得不够从容。几分钟后，两列电车恰好在银河站相距不足一米的地方停住。车刚停稳，男孩和女孩就分别从车上跳下来，飞快地奔向对方，“成功啦！我们都活着！”然后同时停住，看着对方的眼睛。

They slowed down， applying the brake when they drew quite close. Sunlight felt this was a hasty stop， not quite as smooth as he had planned. The two trolleys were stopped just a meter from the Milky Way station， and before the trolleys came to a full standstill， the boy and girl jumped off， ran to each other shouting “Hurray！” Then they suddenly stopped and looked into each others eyes. They would remember this moment the rest of their lives.

“我想到是一起死就不怕了——”女孩回憶着刚刚熬过来的惊险，“就算明天我去了很远的地方，我也不会怕了。”

“I am never afraid when you are with me...” the girl wouldnt forget the breathtaking moment. “now I will not be afraid even if I have to travel to the far away school tomorrow.”

男孩什么都不说，默默听着。他在女孩的目光中发现了格外的东西，它一闪而过，但是男孩确信它就是阳光号想看见的东西。男孩长长出了一口气，说：“我们活着，一起活着，这是最幸福的事情。”

The boy listened， not saying a word. He had found something in her eyes， a spark， but just for a second. He was sure it was what he had been looking for. Much relieved， the boy answered， “Yeah， we are still alive. Together we live； that is the happiest thing in life.”

阳光号静静停在属于月光号的铁轨上，他看见月光号澄澈的双眼正流出两行泪。虽然以后还要行走在各自的轨道上，可是，毕竟一起活着在这个世界上，那么就是一件幸福的事情。塌鼻子站长把烟头儿扔得远远的，从站台那边跑过来，“没错，是这样的，是我当年看见的东西！”

Quietly， Sunlight arched on the rail that belonged to Moonlight. He was looking right in her eyes and saw tears coming down. They had to part again soon but it was blessing they were living together， even if on different tracks. Flat-nosed station master threw his cigarette butt with strength and left the platform. “ That was what I saw in her eyes many years ago！” he thought to himself.

塌鼻子站长抖抖索索拿出一支烟来，点燃它，烟头儿一闪一闪的，像天边的星星。

那是不是她的眼睛呢？塌鼻子站长想，其实她还活着，我和她一起活着，她在天边跟我眨眼呢——

Trembling， he took out another cigarette. He lit it. The cigarette sparkled in the darkness.They looked like the stars in the sky.

“Are the stars her eyes？”the station master wondered， “She must be living somewhere. We are living together under the same sky and now she is blinking her eyes at me...”
