Economic growth in China over the past two decades has had a major impact on the international stage. Thus, the engine of Chinese growth were exports and investment. Encouraged by abundant liquidity and low interest rates, this unprecedented effort is less than domestic savings. The current balance of China is structurally positive. Indeed, Madagascars trade balance remains in deficit with China and tends to widen.

If the announcements made during this summit relate primarily to development cooperation, the Chinese-Malagasy cooperation also plays on the economic and trade front, with a considerable increase in trade between the two countries and Chinese investment in Madagascar steady increase in recent years. This means that trade relations are now the main engine of Sino-Malagasy relations.

As for Chinese investment in Madagascar that have literally taken off also at the same time that trade. The sectors concerned are those of raw materials(oil and minerals), the banking and finance sector, construction and public interest work, traveling, a market that companies operating in China are beginning to dominate almost completely.

From the standpoint strictly economic development, the Chinese presence in Madagascar is advantageous to it in some ways. Chinese demand boosts commodity prices, improving the terms of trade and export earnings of Malagasy country and the new Sino-Malagasy relations contribute to reintroduce Madagascar in international flows of formal trade, including that island found itself apart several decades.

In September 2014, Prime Minister of Madagascar Dr. Kolo Roger has made a trip to Peoples Republic of China. An opportunity for Malagasy and Chinese authorities to make an overview of the cooperation between the two countries and to plot ways of their future partnership. “Making Madagascar an Indian Ocean showcase and make cooperation with Madagascar a model of Sino-African cooperation.”This is Chinas wish if the Madagascar authorities will accept, reported Dr. Kolo Roger at the press conference he gave.

The Minister of Tourism of Madagascar received on December 16th, 2016 at his office, a Chinese delegation. China would like to invest more in the tourism sector in Madagascar.

According to the explanations of the head of the Chinese delegation, Sun Zhi Guo, this Asian country is ready to build hotels in the most enclaved areas. At the same time, they are ready to build the necessary infrastructures to develop hotels, such as roads, airports, ports and energy, and even chinese language schools.

Education and promotion of Chinese language in Madagascar experiencing a revival since the establishment of the Confucius Institute of Antananarivo, Madagascars capital, in November 2008, has already begun even before independence Madagascar. Malagasy would have an almost natural facility to pronounce the words in Mandarin, which promotes learning.

Chinese old living in Madagascar since the colonial period and who are fluent in Malagasy language state that the Chinese language has been taught since the 40s.

Ever since, The Confucius Institute of Antananarivo provide scholarships to Malagasy students. To continue their studies and follow their dream in China to learn Chinese language. The ones who dont have the chance to leave the country, grab other ways to learn such as practicing and self-teaching. After 4 to 6 years of study, most of those students become touristic guide or translator. Knowing very well the Chinese language and Chinese culture. They will to help the industry of tourism back their country. Tourism industry has a really hopeful success with many translators.
