On the "potential" in painting

Abstract:As an important means of expression of artist's emotion in Chinese traditional painting, Propensity occupies an important position in the painter's way of thinking.It affects the development direction and expression form of Chinese oil painting.

Chinese traditional painting has formed a unique artistic aesthetic system through thousands of years of accumulation.This is the crystallization of the wisdom of the ancients for thousands of years.As a Chinese painter who is more inclined to perceptual, since ancient times,artists have often expressed their feelings towards the paintings through the shade of the brush and ink, and the rapidity and slowness of using the brush, thus creating a kind of emotion.Artistic conception."potential"as the "dragon vein" in landscape painting, since the pre-Qin Dynasty,its meaning has been constantly enriched and gradually coincided with the thinking, purpose and method of painting creation, providing a new perspective and direction for painting research and appreciation, and becoming an indispensable part of practical research and painting theory.Throughout the creation of Chinese painting, it is also an important means of artistic conception expression in Chinese painting.

First, the function of "potential" in Chinese painting

1.Potential is the best way to express sense of movement and vitality of painting."potential" has certain directionality, mainly is the visual psychological dynamic effect which the picture uses the pen or the layout itself produces, namely creates a kind of movement tendency between the images on the picture."potential" can make each image in the picture and the structure language of image coherent in the movement tendency, become a "living" whole.Among them, the force,speed and direction of each image together constitute the potential of the picture, which is consistent with the painter's subjective emotion, and has psychological and visual resonance with the viewer.

2.If the "momentum" and "posture" in Chinese paintings are properly handled, the picture will be smooth and coherent.In the creation of Chinese landscape paintings, mastering the overall situation is an important part of the "posture" in painting.Only when the overall situation is grasped in the composition, and the "posture" is well taken,can the next step be handled more smoothly, so that the brush and ink can be connected with the shape of objects.Therefore, the picture can be more vivid and more beautiful.

3."Potential" enriches the connotation of Chinese painting and is also the need of artistic aesthetic consciousness, and has gradually become a widely used aesthetic category."emotion" is contained in"potential", to some extent, "potential" has the aesthetic charm hidden in it.In painting, a powerful calligraphy pen forms a force, which, in contrast, condenses the movement of force.This kind of interaction between various factors has produced the ever-changing "potential".

4.The Chinese describe the world with a painting brush, and express everything in a very simple way.The Chinese draw with a simple pen only take the "momentum" of what they see and grasp the"momentum" of the big picture to express the far-reaching artistic conception.

Second, the concept of "potential" in oil painting

As the Chinese artists deeply influenced by the local culture,the reference, absorption and release of the local culture become the necessity of the development of Chinese artists' art.The times require Chinese oil painting to have a new look and development direction.In the collision between Chinese and Western culture, Chinese oil painting demands inheritance and innovation in the process of development.Chinese oil painting must be combined with Chinese traditional culture if it wants to evolve into art with its own national characteristics."potential" has always been an important factor to be considered in the creation of Chinese painting, and the application of "potential" will inevitably become a necessity for some Chinese oil painters to consider when they create their art and express their feelings.An important means of expression.

The aesthetic factors of structure, composition, rhythm and rhythm emphasized in modern oil paintings are in agreement with the "potential"in Chinese tradition in some respects.Only in western oil painting, these factors related to "power" are more rational.
