A three-day Chinese engineering technology exhibition kicked off in Manila on July 24, showcasing cutting-edge construction and engineering technologies and the latest achievements of China in these fields.

The annual China Engineering Technology Expo (CET), sponsored by China International Contractors Association, ventured to Manila for the first time. More than 20 large-scale international Chinese contractors attended the expo at the SMX convention center.

Exhibitors designed delicate booths to effectively communicate Chinese companies' brand images, technical abilities, comprehensive strength and iconic international cooperation accomplishments through physical artifacts, models and multimedia presentations.

After visiting the expo, Philippine Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said that under the “Build, Build, Build” program, the infrastructure of the Philippines has seen significant progress during the past two years, adding that the future holds plenty of opportunities for Chinese companies to win contracts for infrastructure projects in the Philippines.

The “Build, Build, Build” program, rolled out by the Philippine government in 2017, aims to spend 8 to 9 trillion pesos (roughly US$160-180 billion) in the medium term to build roads, bridges, airports, seaports and railways throughout the Philippines.

Tan Qingsheng, deputy chief of mission and minister counselor at the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, explained how the Philippines' massive infrastructure program works in tandem with the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative.

“China and the Philippines have signed a series of cooperation agreements covering energy, telecommunication, transportation and other fields. I believe the CET will lift bilateral economic and trade collaboration to a new height,” he added.

CET is an annual global professional expo aiming to showcase the comprehensive strength and technical level of Chinese engineering and industry-related companies, publicize Chinese overseas cooperation outcomes and provide greater understanding of Chinese engineering in the global industry to promote international cooperation between Chinese companies and their counterparts and relevant parties in host countries.

As a global itinerant expo, CET has held 16 sessions all over the world including in Canada, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Iran and Panama.
