On January 10, the Chongqing International Modern and Contemporary Art Exhibition, co-sponsored by Chongqing Hongyi Jiuzhou International Culture and Art Center and Pashmin Art Gallery from Germany, was held in Chongqing Hong Art Gallery. Forty-seven artists from more than 20 countries in Europe took part in the exhibition with 430 pieces of work, presenting a grand art feast for Chongqing citizens. This is the largest international exhibition with the widest presence of countries ever held in Chongqing and will last until March 31.

On the opening day of the exhibition, "Chongqing (Xiyong) Foreign Culture and Trade Base" was officially launched. Contracts on setting up German, British and Belarusian national halls for culture and tourism were signed. The Base, operated by Hongyi Jiuzhou International Culture and Art Development Co., Ltd, is Chongqing's key international cultural exchange platform. To further promote cultural and artistic exchanges with foreign countries and expand Chongqing's network for international exchanges, the Base will build an intangible cultural heritage promotion center, an international art exhibition and storage logistics center, an international cultural and tourism cooperation promotion center, and an international copyright cooperation promotion center by relying on relevant resources offered by Xiyong Comprehensive Bonded Zone, i.e. by making full use of its bonded services and customs clearance facilities, and sharing its surrounding supporting resources such as the Chongqing West Logistics Park and Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.

This exhibition is divided into modern and contemporary sections. Works exhibited have a total value of over 16 million euros and cover a time span of  around 200 years, including both impressionist oil paintings with over-100-year history and western arts in the contemporary times.

The oil painting Italian Boys, created by Julius Voegtli at the beginning of the 20th century, depicts the youth of boys with implicit colors, demonstrating the artist's strong ability to shape the expression of characters. Two other works, Lattrigen beside Lake Biel and Landscape, show temperaments of elegance and tranquility, leaving infinite space of imagination to its viewers.

In the contemporary exhibition hall, oil paintings, sculptures, artistic installations, etc. are exhibited to showcase the works of European artists with different genres. Imagination Space, created by artist Askanadi, is full of overlapping and complementary lines, creating illusion of different dimensions and spaces through geometric figures and presents a symbolic expression of inner meditation. One Step Forward, created by Olena Bratiychuk Linse in 2015, draws the outline of man walking forward with abstract lines, is featured by its unique lines and coloring. Sasa Macarova is good at using bright colors to highlight the confident and charming images of females. Her work I very much like being with you, created  in 2019, presents a female half body in the middle, with her body turning slightly to the left and her face facing the viewer, and her yellow skirt shows a sharp contrast to the green in the background.

The exhibition also includes western artists interpretations of Chinese culture. The installations of Emperor Qin Shihuang and Confucius created by Goran Nezewicz use metal to present the images of Emperor Qin Shihuang and Confucius. The lines of the works embody traditional Chinese painting, whereas the forms of their expression are very contemporary.

"There has been a long history of cultural and artistic exchanges between China and the west. This exhibition, by introducing western art into Chongqing, will not only facilitate cultural and artistic exchanges between China and the west, but also enable Chongqing citizens to experience the western arts locally in Chongqing.” The organizer said, it is hoped that this exhibition will serve as a bridge for the communication between eastern and western cultures. Wei Dong, secretary-general of Chongqing Artists Association, commented that the works exhibited are of high artistic values and therefore are highly recommended for viewers. This exhibition will play a positive role in promoting cultural exchanges between Chongqing and foreign countries.

During the exhibition, Hongyi Jiuzhou International Culture and Art Center also organized artists to have a one-day tour of Chongqing. Over 10 artists from Europe visited Chongqing's cultural landmarks, mainly in Yuzhong District, including Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, Eling park, Jiefangbei, etc.. During the tour, they fully experienced the development and charm of Chongqing through exploring Chongqings cultural roots, seeing its sky view, walking along old roads and tasting delicious local food.
