February is a wonderful month as we are having winter holiday and the Spring Festival in this month. As we know， people in China are allowed to restat home at Spring Festival， and today， let's learn some expressions about holidays and talk about what we should do during the holidays.

二月是一个很棒的月份，因为我们可以在这个月过寒假和春节。众所周知，在中国人们在春节假期可以休息。今天，就让我们学学节假日的表达方法，谈谈怎么度过假期吧。

I. Definitions of "holiday" and "festival"

在中国，我们有许多法定节假日，在英文中，我们可以把它称为legalholiday，牛津词典对它的定义是a public holiday thatis fixed by law.

lega 【ligl】 adj.法律的;合法的;法定的;依照法律的例句：Its products met all legal requirements.

它的产品满足了所有法定的必备条件。

What I did was perfectly legal.

我做的事情完全合法。

holiday有三種定义：

a day when most people do not go to work or school， especiallybecause of a religious or national celebration假日，节日（尤指宗教节日或国家庆典日）

例句：The city has a festive holiday atmosphere.这个城市充满了喜庆的节日气氛。

Today is Presidents' Day， a federal holiday. 今天是总统纪念日，一个联邦假日。

a period of time when you are not at work or school假期例句：Imafraid Mr Walsh is away on holiday this week.很抱歉，沃尔什先生这个星期休假去了。

The kids were excited about the holiday.

孩子们对假期感到兴奋不已。

a period of time spent travelling or resting away from home度假期

例句：Where are you going for yourholidays this year？

你今年要到哪里去休假？

We went on holiday together last summer.

去年夏天，我们一起去度假了。

除了holiday，我们上面还提到了一个有关节日的词festival，它有以下两种定义：

a series of performances of music， plays， films/movies， etc.， usually organized in the same place once a year; a series of public events connected with a particular activity or idea（音乐、戏剧、电影等的）会演，节

a day or period of the year when people stop working to celebrate a special event，often a religious one节日;节期;喜庆日

11. Advice on holidays.

二月有寒假、春节，你打算怎么过呢？大吃大喝？宅家游戏？这样的假期过下来也许会让你很空虚，不如看看下面这5个建议，让自己的假日过得更有意义吧！

1. Plan your time in advance事先做好计划

You might find yourself being alone and bored without a plan， so make your plan in advance. Find books and movies you have always wanted to read and watch， then read or watch them， after finishing your homework.

没有计划的假期会让你觉得十分孤单和无聊，那就提前做好安排吧。把那些你一直想看的书和电影找出来，在做完作业后看。

2. Use your time wisely好好利用时间

Make a list of things you have always wanted to do but never had the time. See this time as a gift： you have total control to do whatever you want. Use it wisely.

列一个清单，写下你一直想做但没有时间干的事情。把这段假期当成一份礼物：你可以完全控制时间做你自己想做的事情。好好利用哦。

3. Volunteer当志愿者

It's better to give than to receive. There are some ways to spread happiness to those in need： deliver homemade cookies to old people's home， cheer the kids up at a local Children's Hospital， help provide a holiday meal for the homeless.

Reach out to your social network and find out who are lonely and bring them together or Wechat with friends far away.

Instead of supporting plastics， make gifts more meaningful. Buy at small， local stores， make your own holiday cards and donate the savings to charity.

与其花钱支持塑料袋，倒不如送点更有意义的礼物。比如，在当地小店里买东西，自己做贺卡，捐些积蓄给慈善机构。
