中国航海典籍《瀛涯胜览》英译本的副文本解读

內容摘要：中国航海典籍《瀛涯胜览》真实地记录了郑和船队的海外见闻以及中国与“海上丝绸之路”沿线国家的友好往来。英国汉学家、研究型译者米尔斯的《瀛涯胜览》英译本是迄今为止郑和航海文献的首部、最重要的外文全译本，可谓西方汉学家郑和航海文献研究的集大成者。本文将对该译本中的标题、序言、编辑说明、导言、插图、注释、附录等七种副文本展开研究。研究结果显示，副文本在航海典籍《瀛涯胜览》翻译中的有效运用发挥着协调多元主体互动、实现多元文本互现、拓展多元文化互通三个方面的积极作用，促进了中国海洋文化的翻译与国际传播。希望本研究能够为中国航海典籍翻译、中外海洋文化交流与中国文化国际传播等相关研究提供一定的借鉴。

Title： An Analysis of Use of Paratexts in the English Translation of Chinese Nautical Classic Ying-yai Sheng-lan

Abstract： Ying-yai Sheng-lan， one of the Chinese nautical classics，gives an authentic account of the overseas experience of Zheng Hes fleet and Chinas friendly contact with the nations along the Maritime Silk Road. The English translation of Ying-yai Sheng-lan by J. V. G. Mills， a British sinologists and scholar translator is the first and the most significant translation of documents on Zheng Hes navigation， having an academic status of the masterpiece research product by western sinologists. The current study attempts to analyze the extensive use of such paratexts as the title， preface， editorial notes， introduction， illustrations and maps， footnotes and appendices in Mills translation. Research findings reveal that the effective use of paratexts in the translation of Chinese nautical classics Ying-yai Sheng-lan have well facilitated the  translation and international transmission of Chinese maritime culture by enabling the multiple cultural mediators—the source-text author， the translator， the publisher and the readers—to co-function， and the many-facet paratexts—research data of the source-text and the target text—to co-exist for better comprehension of the source-text and better reception of the target-text， thus bridging the gap of Sino-foreign maritime cultural exchange. It is hoped that this study is conducive to the studies on the English translation of traditional Chinese nautical classics， Sino-foreign cultural exchange literature， and to the global transmission of the Chinese culture as well.
