Passage 2

Many people say dolphins are intelligent. They seem to be able to think, understand and learn things quickly. But are they as smart as humans, or are they more like cats and dogs? Dolphins use their brains quite differently from the way humans do. But scientists say dolphins and humans are very similar in some ways. How?

Like humans, dolphins“talk” to each other about a lot of things—such as their age, their feelings, and their ways of finding food. They also use their sounds and body language to communicate. Understanding dolphins’ conversation is not easy for humans. No one speaks like dolphins yet, but some scientists are trying to learn.

Dolphins are also social animals. They live in groups, and they often join others from different groups to play games and have fun just like people. Scientists believe playing together is something only intelligent animals do.

Dolphins and humans are similar in another way: they both make plans for getting things they want. In the seas of southern Brazil, for example, dolphins use an intelligent plan to get food. When there are fish near a boat, dolphins signal (發信号) to the fishermen to put their nets in the water. Using this method, the men can catch a lot of fish. Why do dolphins help the men? There is an advantage for them: they get to eat some of the fish that get away from the nets.

25. According to Paragraph 2, we can know that_________.

C. dolphins don’t use a lot of body languages

D. dolphins “talk” is easy for humans to understand

D. they can get food in that way

27. How many ways do we know that dolphins and humans are similar ?

A. Two.           B. Three.      C. Four.          D. Five.

28. What is the passage mainly about?

A. Dolphins are similar to humans in some ways.

B. Dolphins are as smart as human beings.

C. Dolphins play together like humans.

D. Dolphins are generally social animals.

Passage 3

Many of us don’t pay much attention to the importance of eye care. It is said that if you take care of your body, then you can surely be healthy. That is why our eyes should be given a lot of care. Natural eye care should be put in a number one place.

There are several causes leading to poor eyesight like not enough food, genes (基因) and aging (老化). Televisions, computers and reading are also the causes of having poor eyesight.

If you happen to work in front of the computer, it is best to take a break every once in a while. Something dirty can cause redness and it will make you feel uncomfortable. It is bad for your eyes, too. If this happens, the best way is to clean your eyes by using cold water. You must also try your best to protect your eyes from harmful things. For example, sunglasses are not just for fashion but they can also serve as a great way to protect your eyesight from UV rays.

Eating healthy foods will do good to your eyesight. Remember that vitamins A, C and E are good for eyes. Try to eat food groups that have these vitamins. And you should do eye exercises because exercise protects your eyesight, too. If a person exercises regularly (定期地) and eats the right kind of food, his eyes will stay in good condition for a long time.

All above are natural ways of eye care that help us keep healthy eyes. Being happy all the time can be helpful to a person’s eyesight, too. In a word, eye care is very important, no matter how old a person is.

Playing sports is a lot of fun. But if you get hurt, it is not. Before playing sports, you should warm up for 15 to 30 minutes. When playing sports, you should know the rules to avoid injuries. For example, in soccer, you should go after the ball rather than the player. In this way, you won’t hurt others. What do other countries do to keep students safe?

Japan

At public elementary schools in Japan, earthquake drills (演习) are held once a month. They teach students safety tips during an earthquake. Regular training helps students escape from earthquake-stricken areas without causing any stampedes (踩踏).

Australia

Most students in Australia take first-aid courses at school. They learn basic first-aid knowledge in the class, such as how to call an ambulance and what to do when someone is hurt. The government is trying to make all kids take such courses.

US

Most US school buildings have fire escapes. A fire escape has platforms with stairs and ladders at each story of a building. They are usually made of steel and built outside the building. People can get to the fire escape through a fire exit door or a window. It is not a good idea to jump out of a window from higher than two stories. You may hurt yourself.
