Abstract: In academic English listening teaching, the textual structure and linguistic features of lectures are important learning content. In order to understand the macro and micro features of the TED-Ed animation micro-lecture, 22 TED-Ed animation micro-lectures were analyzed using Gregory's segment analysis method and Halliday's system function syntax. The analysis results show that the discourse structure segment, the theory/content segment and the example segment are the most frequently occurring segments. The characteristics of these macrostructures are related to the context variables. On the micro level, the three segments often use the material process and the relational process, as well as the statement tone and a small amount of implicit objective low-value modality. These lexical grammatical features reflect the influence of context variables on the empirical function and interpersonal meaning. This research has certain enlightenment significance for the selection of academic English teaching materials, and also complements the genre research of online video lectures.
