AnExplorationof“Jiatou”inYuan-eraZaju

(by WEI Qiang)

ABSTRACT: It was generally believed by academics that the “Jiatou” of Yuan-era Zaju was designed to eulogize rulers. However, a comprehensive examination of historical records shows it is doubtful whether “Jiatou” was used for the purpose. In fact, whether there existed jiatou zaju is open to discussion. A textual research on the records of “Jiatou” reveals that it should have been a form of performance featuring dancing, similar to the introduction to operas in Song Dynasty, performed by drama celebrities before the formal Zaju performance began.

OntheOriginandNarrationofDialogue-styleYuefuPoetry

(by ZHUANG Liang-liang, ZHANG Yun)

Abstract: Compared with the “feng”, “sao” and ancient ballads, the dialogue narrative system of the Yuefu narrative poetry exhibits the characteristics of completeness, maturity and independence. The origin of the dialogue system in Yuefu poetry was different from “sao” in that the latter was influenced by exorcising rituals while the former involved more interaction with folk drama. The addition of dialogues in Yuefu narrative poems endowed them with more sense of substitution in content and attracted more attention from the audience. At the same time, dialogues in Yuefu narrative poetry became an important factor promoting the conflicts between characters and the climax of the plot. Also, the dialogue style kept the essence of poetry for expressing feelings. It allowed different characters to express the feelings and attitudes of the narrator or the real author, and displayed the morality and values generally recognized by the society.

AnEconomicExplanationof“NegativePrice”

(by WU Hai-min, ZHANG Chuan-yang, WU Shu-juan)

Abstract: Commodities with supply rigidity and demand elasticity will face a dilemma of “closed” decisions when short-term demand decreases sharply. Surplus commodities exceeding market demand are of huge “negative internality”, causing their “positive value” occurring when they are profitable to manufacturers to “negative value” when they are loss-making to manufacturers. In essence, “negative price” is a kind of transaction cost paid by producers in order to offset “negative internality” and maintain the balance between rigid supply and elastic demand at the “dilemma” closing point. It is the optimal decision made by producers after weighing the advantages and disadvantages. This study further enriches the “cease-of-business” theory in economics.

(by XI Yan-hui)

Abstract: There exists widespread natural worship in the production and life activities of the Chinese nation. Folk nature worship not only has its social psychological impact, but also serves the function of ecological maintenance. As a symbolic expression of ecological subconsciousness, the traditional folk worship of nature embodies the distinctive characteristics of animism, the rational characteristics of Shintoism, and the simple thought of mutual feedback between humans and deities. Today, it is still necessary to learn the concept of reverence for nature from the traditional folk nature worship and promote the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
