众所周知 睡觉是日常生活中不可或缺的事情 那么在英语中该如何准确地表达“睡觉”呢？对此 笔者归纳了一些有关“睡觉”的常用英语表达 以期同学们能够掌握和熟练应用。

一、表示“睡觉”的动作1.go to bed

在英语中 go to bed意为“去睡觉 就寝” 强调“上床睡觉”这一动作 但不表示“睡着”。例如：

It's time to go to bed.

就寝时间到了。

She was about to go to bed when the telephone rang.

她正要上床睡觉时 电话响了。

You are going to have your dinner get washed and go to bed.

你先吃晚饭 然后洗漱睡觉。

2.go to sleep

go to sleep意为“入睡 睡着” 表示有意想睡 强调的是“入睡”这一动作 相当于beginto sleep。当某人醒了后又睡着了 也可以用“go to sleep”表示。例如：

He didn't go to sleep until 1 last night.

他昨晚直到1点钟才睡着。

I closed my eyes and tried to go to sleep.

我闭上眼睛 想睡上一觉。

The baby woke for a moment and then went to sleep again.

这个婴儿醒了一会儿 然后又睡着了。

3.fall asleep

fall asleep意为“睡着” 侧重“自然而然地睡着”的动作 有时也可以表示很快入睡。例如：

He fell asleep when watching TV. 他

看着电视不知不觉睡着了。

I was too tired to fall asleep.

我太累了反而睡不着了。

二、表示“睡觉”的状态

1.sleeping sleeping 除了用作动詞 表示现在进行时 还可以是形容词用作定语 修饰名词 主要侧重“人熟睡”的状态 意为“熟睡的 睡着的”。例如：

I saw a sleeping girl in the waiting room.

在候车室我看见一个熟睡的女孩。

Please take care of the sleeping baby.

请照顾好这个熟睡的婴儿。

此外 sleeping用作定语时 还可以表示物的用途。例如：

There is a direct sleeping car from Shanghai to Beijing.

从上海到北京有一趟直达的卧铺车。

2.sleepy sleepy侧重人昏昏欲睡、精神困倦的状态 意为“瞌睡的 困乏的” 常用作表语。例如：

I am a little sleepy now because I didn't sleep well last night.

我现在有点儿困 因为昨晚没有睡好。

She always feels sleepy when she holds a book in hand.

当她捧着一本书的时候 总感觉昏昏欲睡。

3.asleep

asleep意为“睡着的” 表示的是“睡着的”的状态 常用作表语 与be动词构成系表结构 其前可以用sound fast等词修饰 但不能用very修饰。例如：

The little boy is sound asleep on the sofa.

小男孩在沙发上睡得很香。

Everybody is fast asleep at this hour of the night.

夜间这个时段人人都睡得很熟。
