With the vicissitudes since the founding of New China, Guangdong's shipbuilding industry has undergone earth-shaking changes. From obscurity to determination to catch up; from paying tuition fees to rebirth; from facing difficulties to technological guidance,Guangdong shipbuilding industry has filled a large number of domestic gaps and created many world leading products.

Construction of 13800 cubic meters of rake suction dredger was well under way at the wharf of CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. At the opposite wharf of CSSC Guangzhou Shipbuilding International Co., Ltd., the global most advanced dual-fuel luxury ro-ro passenger No.2 ship "THJELVAR"was undergoing dock assembly. The hull of nearly 200m was white and elegant,reflecting the dazzling light in the sun from the gap between the clouds.

The commissioning of Longxue Island Shipbuilding Base in 2008 fundamentally changed the traditional pattern of “the north is more important than the south” in China's shipbuilding industry, ended the long history that ships of more than 100000 tons could not be built in South China for a long time,and made Guangzhou a shipbuilding city with a single ship production capacity of 300000 tons and an annual shipbuilding capacity of more than 4 million tons.

Able to “clasp the moon in the Ninth Heaven, seize turtles deep down in the Five Seas”, Guangdong shipbuilding people have never forgotten that the construction of the advanced scientific research vessel, the building of the important apparatus for marine research vessel, and the promotion of the ocean exploration ability and the marine science and technology innovation ability are the important support and guarantee to accelerate the construction of a maritime power. 4000 ton ocean integrated resources survey ship “Da Yang Hao”, marine comprehensive geological survey ship “Marine Geology 10”, 3000 ton scientific research ship “Jia Geng” …… A number of technologically leading scientific research ships, each with its own emphasis, have been born from Guangdong shipbuilders one after another; the 10,000-meter manned deep submersible mother ship “Exploration No.1” has also completed three system upgrades in Guangdong and sailed to deep blue; a number of scientific research equipment are under construction, such as new geophysical integrated scientific research ships, are ready to be launched.

With the rapid development of intelligent technology, it is an inevitable trend to promote the transition of production level of shipbuilding enterprises with “intelligent manufacture”. Intelligent manufacturing is the main direction, is the major trend and core content of manufacturing development in the future, and is also the fundamental way to make the manufacturing industry in China from big to strong.

On the basis of the intelligent transformation project of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel Manufacturing Project, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International and Huangpu Wenchong promoted the intelligent manufacturing,built demihull (small assemblage)intelligent welding production line and the plane section production line, set up the workshop information management and control system, carried out the upgrading of plate/profile cutting, and these intelligent production systems will be applied in the future shipbuilding production. Previously, Huangpu Wenchong had established intelligent three-dimensional storage facilities.

Intelligent design is the precedent to intelligent production.At present, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International and Huangpu Wenchong are participating in CSSC's informationbased reconstruction project based on the application of the world's leading CATIA V6 3D experience platform software,reconstructing a new generation of full 3D collaborative design, manufacturing and management integrated application systems, simultaneously optimizing and perfecting design concepts and methods,building business processes, technical standard systems, etc., improving the level of R&D design, production construction and comprehensive management in an all-round way, so as to achieve the purpose of improving quality, reducing cost and increasing efficiency, and enhancing comprehensive competitiveness. Taking advantage of the past application of CATIA V 5,Huangpu Wenchong broke through related technical problems of engineering application, took the lead in application on a real ship. Guangzhou Shipbuilding International, in line with the threedimensional model of CATIA and the holographic projection technology,realized the results of the threedimensional imaging display of the Gothlandian ro-ro passenger ship and the 70,000-ton oil tanker.

China shipbuilding industry's only industrial Internet platform, “Chuanhai Zhiyun”, was born in Guangdong.Launched by Huangpu Wenchong’s wholly owned subsidiary CSSC Industrial Internet Co Ltd, “Chuanhai Zhiyun”provides the shipbuilding industrial chain enterprises with Internet of equipment,collaborative manufacturing and other professional industrial applications,provides diversified platform services such as supply and demand connection for regional small and mediumsized enterprises, plays a leading and demonstration role in speeding up the intelligent transformation and highquality development of Guangdong shipbuilding industry, will also promote coordinated innovation and ecological development of Guangdong shipbuilding industry and even the national shipbuilding industry chain. Intelligent production, intelligent design, intelligent storage and other intelligent technology applications have promoted the intelligent level of shipbuilding technology in Guangdong and even the whole country.

Looking around the world, the heat of cruise / passenger ro-ro ship market is continuing, the development of polar resources stimulates the demand of polar ships, and the intelligent technology spreads to shipping and shipbuilding industries. The “Made in Blue Sea” is being caught in the hands of Guangdong shipbuilding companies.

The world's first intelligent merchant ship, “Da Zhi”, from Huangpu Wenchong, has brought a milestone breakthrough in the research and development and manufacture of intelligent ships in China's shipbuilding industry. Guangzhou Shipbuilding International's dual-fuel luxury ro-ro passenger ship "THJELVAR" is in the process of final wharf commissioning; and China's first polar exploration cruise ship, “GREG MORTIMER”, built by China Merchants Group was named and delivered.

At the North Pole on the other side of the earth, Guangdong-built ships are breaking the ice. Two of the world's only polar heavy-duty deck carriers,“AUDAX” and “PUGNAX”,are serving the YAMAL LNG project,the world's largest liquefied natural gas project, in the Arctic Ocean. The 3+3 2200TEU ice-class container ships signed by Huangpu Wenchong and Eimskip of Iceland are under construction.
