On Hanshan Deqing’s Interpretation of Zhuangzi with His“Mind-only”View of Knowledge

LI Zhi-ming

(School of Literature,Nankai University,Tianjin 300071)

Abstract:Hanshan Deqing was one of the four eminent monks in the Ming Dynasty, and his Annotations on Zhuangzi’s Inner Chapters was the work of his heart and soul in his later years.According to his“mind-only”view of knowledge,he defined the“Tao”of Laozi and Zhuangzi as the Arya consciousness, which was not separated from the nature of knowledge, but was a casual manifestation of Tathagatagarbha. He interpreted Zhuangzi from three aspects:in terms of the mind,he interpreted Zhuangzi’s“true sage”as the self-nature of man,and transformed Zhuangzi’s discussion of the realm of the sage into a discussion of mindfulness;in terms of cultivation,he took“breaking the I-obsession”as the core and drewon the Tiantai Buddhism’s idea of shamatha and vipashyana to understand Zhuangzi’s thought of cultivation;in terms of the theory of body and function,he held that although Zhuangzi advocated“no self”,his philosophy could help people live a better life.Hanshan Deqing integrated Confucianism,Taoism and Buddhism with his“mind-only”viewof knowledge, arguing that the three religions are“same in mind and different in trace”and“all are true in law”.Therefore,he interpreted Zhuangzi with not only Buddhism but also Confucianism, showing that the three religions were interchangeable and harmonious.

Abstract:Zhu Xi investigated the connotations of“Zhong”,a core concept of Confucian philosophy.According to classical interpretations,Zhu Xi discussed“Zhong”with a viewthat the notion transcended Han learning, embodied both universality and particularity, and symbolized adaptability. He pointed out that“shi zhong”was the key to the sage’s teaching, with an aim to oppose Lv Dalin’s“zhi Zhong”and Yang Shi’s“non-zhong”.Zhu Xi pointed out that only by grasping“shi Zhong”can we realize the sage’s idea of“harmony, restoration of heaven and earth, and nurturing of all things”,and the sage’s ideal of“All things in heaven and earth are one with me”.

Abstract:Wang Chonghui was an outstanding diplomat and politician in modern China. In his long-term diplomatic career,he combined his knowledge with international politics and put forward a series of important propositions on World War II and post-war world peace. He believed World War II would eventually happen, and Germany,Italy, and Japan were the main culprits. The specific causes for the war were the mixing of peace treaties and alliances, the League of Nations’inadequacies, the lack of genuine support for the League, and the many drawbacks of Covenant of the League of Nations. The outbreak of war not only damaged the peace and security of various countries, but also threatened their economic interests and affected their cultural development. In order to maintain world peace after the war,Wang Chonghui believed that it was necessary to rebuild the World Peace Organization, reform the journalism of the countries, and eliminate the root causes of war.His ideas and propositions were progressive, but also limited to some extent.

Diversified Investment Obligations of Asset Managers: Jurisprudential Basis and Judgment Logic

SUN Hong-qing

(School of Law,Jilin University,Changchun,Jilin 130012)

Abstract:Whether asset managers have the obligation to diversify investment and what are the corresponding judicial standards are urgent issues in risk control and risk disposal in China’s asset management industry. The applicability of modern portfolio theory in China is relatively low.It is not suitable for China to directly transplant diversified investment rules from Uniform Prudent Investor Act of the United States.Transplantation requires prudence. In terms of regulatory rules, this paper suggests unifying diversified investment obligations of collective fund trusts, private funds and securities and futures operating institutions’private asset management products. In situations where investment scope stipulated in the contract is broad but the actual investment type of the asset management product is relatively single, judges need to be aware that best practices in the asset management industry should not be equated with judicial standards and they need to more respect the independent decision-making power of asset managers. In terms of judgment rule,at present we can combine overall judgment rule and individual judgment rule based on the specific case.

GUAN Yue

(College English Education Center,Nanfang College,Guangzhou,Guangdong 510970)

Abstract:The construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay Area is a new measure to promote a new pattern of all-round opening-up in the new era,and also a new practice to promote the cause of“one country, two systems”.However, the research on the international image of the Great Bay Area,at present,is mainly from the perspective of urban brand marketing, urban visual image design and tourism image perception rather than multimodal metonymic complexes.Based on the latest propaganda film“Infinite Possibilities in the Future”planned and produced by Guangdong Radio and Television Station in December 2021,this paper discusses howthe multimodal metonymic complexes construct the international image of the Great Bay Area and realize the dynamic construction of multimodal cognition. It finds that multimodal metonymic chains,multimodal(multiple-source)-in-target metonymy,multimodal(multiple-source-in-target metonymic chains)and multimodal metonymy combined with visual hyperbole and visual pun have successfully built an international image of Greater Bay urban, which is suitable for living, working, traveling, learning, innovative development, network connectivity and fast and convenient transportation. This study no only enriches and develops the theroy of multimodal metonymic complexes, but also expands the scope and provides a new corpus for this theory.
