【作家簡介】：

石黑一雄（ Kazuo Ishiguro），日裔英国作家，1954年出生于日本长崎，1960年时随父亲迁往英国，先后在肯特大学和东英吉利大学获得学士和硕士学位。1982年出版第一部小说《群山淡景》（A PaleView of Hills），获得英国皇家学会颁发的温尼弗雷德·霍尔比奖，引起英国文坛注意。随后便一发不可收拾，至今已发表7部长篇小说和一部短篇小说集，并斩获包括布克奖（The Man Booker Prize）在内的众多文学奖。2008年，石黑一雄被《泰晤士报》（The Times）评为英国自1945年以来最伟大的50位小说家之一。

【内容提要】：

在英国乡间有一所名叫黑尔舍姆的学校。这里的学生和别处的学生看起来并无差别，他们也学习体育、绘画、音乐等课程，可是游客、老师和校监却对他们避而远之。后来通过传闻和老师的话，叙述者凯西和她的朋友露丝、汤米发现他们原来是克隆人，他们存在的目的是为人们捐献器官，每人捐献三四次后，生命就完结了。这一发现让他们踏上了寻找身份之旅：露丝通过寻找自己的“原型”来理解自己的身份，汤米通过绘画来证明自己的情感和灵魂与人类一样丰富。凯西和汤米为了延缓捐献找到了克劳德夫人，却被告知夫人也无能为力，他们的命运注定是悲剧性的。选文中，凯西听着歌曲《千万别丢下我》，怀里抱着枕头，把它当成自己的孩子晃来晃去，站在门口的夫人看到这一切，不禁抽泣哽咽……
